Case study · Airline crew scheduling & bidding

CrewBids

Crew scheduling and bidding for airlines, with a rules engine that knows the regs.

CrewBids demo: the award results page for an airline bid period, with qualification expiry counts, running on synthetic data.

CrewBids is a working product demo built on synthetic airline data. It is not in operational use at an airline.

01 / Problem

The problem

Airline crew bidding runs on dense rules: duty limits in the regulations, a union contract, seniority. Crews and schedulers need tools that apply those rules correctly and explain the result.

02 / Build

What we built

  • A legality engine for Canadian flight-duty rules (CARs Part VII) plus contract rules kept as configuration, not code
  • A seniority award solver that explains every award, in English and French
  • Crew pairings browser, bid builder and award view
  • Scheduler dashboard: run awards, open time, reserve coverage, rule flags and run comparisons

03 / Stack

Stack

  • Next.js
  • TypeScript
  • Postgres + Drizzle
  • Zod
  • next-intl (EN/FR)
